A national disgrace—Too many of our children live in poverty

Nationwide, one in five American children lived in poverty in 2009.  For the average family of four, this means that their combined income for the year was less than $21,954.  A map at the link below presents the new data on child poverty rates by state, which ranged from highs of 31.0% in Mississippi and 29.4% in the District of Columbia to a comparable low of 10.8% in New Hampshire.  Visit this link to see the poverty rate for children in your state.  http://www.epi.org/analysis_and_opinion/entry/Child_poverty_rises_dramatically/#When:20:16:12Z
