The Mobile Alabama Press-Register posted this picture of kids playing with oil that washed up on the beach at Gulf Shores, AL. There is some debate about just how toxic these tar balls are however the Florida State Emergency Response Team says this: “The public is reminded that tar balls are a hazardous material, which while not dangerous to most people can cause an allergic reaction and should only be retrieved by trained personnel.” Best advice—don’t touch the tar balls and certainly don’t let your kids play with them.
