The truth about the speech spat

The White House either did or did not consult with the Speaker’s office before announcing the request for a joint session of Congress.  The Speaker’s office did or did not agree to the request.  The Speaker did or did not consult with the Minority Leader in the House before telling the President NO.  The White House did or did not request a joint session on Wednesday night in order to upstage the Republican debate.  The Speaker did or did not turn down the President because of the Republican debate.  The Speaker had or had not already scheduled critical legislation to take up Wednesday night that could not be postponed for an address from the President.  The White House and the Speaker and Republicans and everyone in Washington is or is not really concerned about the economy and creating jobs rather than just playing political games.  The Speaker was or was not trying to embarrass the President.  The President was or was not trying to embarrass the Speaker.

There is only one thing for certain about the speech spat, nothing of consequence is going to get done in Washington to help the economy or Americans out of work until at least 2013 and maybe not even then.

The United States government is broken, maybe permanently broken
